How does migration affect Norwegian society and what are the effects of integration measures aimed at the migrants that come here? These questions have been researched by the Institute for Social Research since migration research started in this country in the late 1960s. We research, among other things, migration management and social inequality, policy, labour market, and educational inequality from a migration and integration perspective.
In recent years, the ISF’s migration researchers have contributed knowledge about, among other things, the prevalence of Covid-19 in the immigrant population, asylum flows, revocation of residence permits, government use of social media in migration management, citizenship, integration of children of immigrants, attitudes to immigration and integration, participation in public debate, freedom of expression, and hate speech. The relationship between immigration and welfare, and support for the welfare state, has been central, in addition to civil society’s role in immigration and integration processes.
