Discrimination after employment

Project period February 2024–December 2025
Project employer IMDi
Project nr. 10796
Project leader Julia Orupabo

The project has a dual purpose. Firstly, we aim to provide knowledge about experiences with various forms of racism and ethnic discrimination among employees with immigrant backgrounds, and the consequences of such experiences for their opportunities in the Norwegian labor market. Secondly, we will examine the measures implemented to counteract discrimination and their role in creating equal opportunities and a more inclusive working life. There is an extensive research literature that documents ethnic discrimination in hiring processes by studying the choices, attitudes, and discriminatory practices of Norwegian employers. However, we know less about the occurrence of discrimination after employment. We will use a design that combines quantitative and qualitative methods to collectively generate new knowledge about discrimination of individuals with immigrant backgrounds in the labor market, and what measures can counteract discrimination.
