Project Background
Local authorities, municipalities and counties are important agents in the organizing and financing of local voluntary organizations. However, we know little about how local authorities collaborate with voluntary organizations.
This project will, based on case studies in selected communes and counties, contribute to create new knowledge about local and regional policies toward the voluntary sector and their significance for the democratic role and economic framework conditions of voluntary organizations at the local level.
Project Aim
The project will examine the interaction between voluntary organizations and local and regional authorities in the following areas:
- culture and recreational activities
- health and care-work
- the upbringing conditions for children and youth
- the integration of minority groups
- emergency response
The project will identify which conditions should be in place for the interaction between local policies and voluntary organizations to be successful in different areas. In addition, the project will examine how the interaction between local policies and national sectorial policies influences the voluntary organization’s framework conditions and activities within the respective policy-areas.
The project will also investigate to what degree and in what ways different levels of government (municipality, county, state) influence local voluntary organization’s activities and framework conditions. Finally, the project will map the extent of collaboration between voluntary organizations and the local public sector.
